Title: Touching the Surface

Author: Kimberly Sabatini

Published: October 30, 2012

When Elliot finds herself dead for the third time, she knows she must have messed up, big-time. She doesn’t remember how she landed in the afterlife again, but she knows this is her last chance to get things right. Elliot just wants to move on, but first she will be forced to face her past and delve into the painful memories she’d rather keep buried. Memories of people she’s hurt, people she’s betrayed and people she’s killed.

As she pieces together the secrets and mistakes of her past, Elliot must find a way to earn the forgiveness of the person she’s hurt most, and reveal the truth about herself to the two boys she loves, even if it means losing them both forever.

This one was really an emotional one…

This book brings out tears, cheers, frustration, and sometimes even you want to throw the book around a bit. (That’s what happened to me)

In the beginning half of the book, I wasn’t as captivated and interested in this book as I was once I passed the middle of the book.

What happens in the beginning, is that we have this girl named Elliot.
And we have a world, where there is life after life. Elliot has died three times. And supposedly that makes you special? I never really found out what that means once you have become a “Third Timer” in this book, the author never explained it. But you do get a helper called a “Passenger”.

Anyway, in the beginning we go trough Elliot’s memories, and you find out that she killed somebody in a car crash, because she didn’t look up from her beeping phone in time to dodge the car that was about to hit her. and get this, the person she hit is her “helper”, and he trusts her more than his own brother, go figure right?
So, we find that out, and as soon as Elliot dies, we have this boy named Trevor, and he pops in right after her, supposedly he finds out that she killed his brother in the car crash (his names Oliver), and he really hates her, but the irony of it, is that they had once been lovers because they both had shared the similar pain; Elliot killing his brother, and Trevor for losing his brother. So that eventually brought out a lot of feels 🙂

Throughout this story we go through a lot of memories, emotions, you literally go to heaven and hell in this one xD, and a lot of secrets will be spilled, testing out friendships, and trust 🙂

Then in the end, of course everything turns out alright, there’s some kissing ❤ (I wont tell you with whoooooo xD), and of course they go back to the living world right at the end, leaving you making up your own ending 😉

So overall, this was a sweet, and emotional story, I almost cried, and I never cry in books, you can give me the saddest book ever written, and I will not cry, believe me I have tried. And sadly, this isn’t a series 😦 And the only book this author has ever written. So, oh well.
